Around DMSE
Marjorie Joss has accepted a position in the
Department of Mechanical Engineering, and will be leaving
DMSE as of April 7, 2004. We are grateful to Marjorie for her continues outstanding
support, and wish her much success in her new position.
Steve Malley took a new
position as Coordinator of the Department of Ocean Engineering
Education Office beginning February 9, 2004. Steve served
the Student Services Office with dedication and distinction
for the past two years. We will all miss his genuine warmth
and kindness, quick wit, and delightful stories.
Awards
Prof. Chris Schuh is one of the winners of the 2004 Office
of Naval Research (ONR) Young Investigator Awards. Prof.
Angela Belcher recently received a Four-Star Recognition
Award for "significant contributions to Army Transformation."

Recent Events
On April 7, 2004, Prof. Ned Thomas travelled to Dayton,
Ohio where he spoke to a high school science class and discussed
"Nano" research and technology. Prof. Thomas is the Director
of the Institute for Soldier Nanotechnology.
Resources
The MIT Libraries are pleased to announce that the MIT community
now has online access to the MRS
Symposia Proceedings. The MRS Online Proceedings Library includes over 10,000 papers
presented
at Materials Research Society Fall and
Spring Meetings since 1998. This
includes 17 proceedings volumes that were never published
in print
format. Please note: not all MRS symposia papers can be found
online from 1998 -
present. The Science Library will continue to receive all
print volumes of
the MRS Symposia Proceedings. Use Barton to
search for the print volumes. To access the MRS Online Proceedings
Library, visit Vera
and search for MRS.
The MIT Libraries also has acquired access to the MRS
Bulletin online, going back to March 2000 which can also be accessed
through Vera where
it is listed as Materials Research Society Bulletin.
The MIT Libraries have set up easy off-campus access to
SciFinder Scholar and MDL CrossFire eilstein/Gmelin via
the MIT
Information Systems Citrix Server -
(to access this page you need to have the MIT Certificates). To
set up a Citrix account and access these databases from off-campus,
click here.
You can also set up your Citrix account on your office computer,
and access these databases without installing the clients.
This guarantees access the latest version of the
client software.
